It seems that no matter what rom I'm on, and no matter how many times I've completely wiped data/cache/etc......within the past 5 months my phone absolutely refuses to connect to any wifi point. At home, work, a friends house, anywhere. It attempts to connect, says connecting, then says its disconnected. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it even possible for your phone's "wifi" to be forever broken?

I can imagine anything is possible such as loss of wifi. After well over a year of flashing many roms and all sorts of kernels mine is still kicking, still use it to port themes etc. Do you normally use the same kernel with each rom? Just asking because this could be the issue. Maybe froyo vs. GB causes it, is it broke on both?

I've tried all sorts of kernels as well. Never used to be a problem. Fails with froyo and GB. Its not my router either (I dont think). Two computers, a nook, two wiis, and an ipad have no prob connecting to it. My phone is slowly dying I suppose. Upgrading to something by next month anyway. I'll have to fully retire it when I upgrade if wifi can't work.

Yeah sorry to say it might be. I dont have much to offer you unfortunately. The reason I asked about the kernel was because I have seen it where peeps try using the same kernel for newer roms and it can cause issues and break things. Sorry I dont have more for you.

Thats cool. Not everything lasts forever. And believe me, I've made this phone jump through hundreds of hoops. I'm surprised more isn't broken

Unfortunately not youre right, not everything does. And even though my D1's wifi is still working fine it just doesnt have the steam it used to. I was starting to feel like it was giving out on me so I got a replacement for her. Still flash newer versions of some of my fav roms but the 2 is my main phone now.

I came here to offer the same suggestion as JSM (other kernels) but it appears you've already thought of that. So I wanted to offer my condolances. My OG Droid is still kicking and even when I upgrade to the Bionic next month I plan to kee.p it around as a wifi device and for flashing any new ROMs that come out. If/when mine finally goes for good, it will truly be a sad day.

I thought it was just me. I've been using mine for 9 months now, flashing since day one. The wifi just doesn't connect like it used to. Timeouts and access points disappearing and reappearing at random. I've tried all sorts of different roms, kernels, and router settings and it's still the same. Although I just flashed back to bb0.6.2 and it seems a lot better but still not like it used to be.

I have had the exact same problem as you consistently since i bought my droid
the one thing i noticed, was that i could never use my homes wifi or work
but when i went over my friends house, it worked
the only difference between the networks ive noticed, is that my friend doesn't use any password on his while @ work and home i use a wpa password
i haven't tried changing the network setting on the router at home to confirm this, mainly because if i did, people wuld be jackin my net :tongue3:
but could anybody else test this theory??

Works, so far no issues. Never bothered trying that cause I was worried about security, but I filtered all the mac addresses so only my devices can access it. Cool thanks for the tip. Plus I can open it up see if any of my neighbors connect and start sniffin around...

Edit: Was working great on bugless beast but whenever I try a gingerbread rom the problems come back. I guess cause most people have data plans this hasn't really been a priority. I've been dealing with these issues on all the latest gb roms I've flashed.
