is there any way that i can flash my own splash screen. on my evo i just have to flash a PC36IMG from the bootloader. is there some way similar for the epic?

The splash screen image is in the kernel. You'll have to get the source code for the kernel of choice, then edit the splash screen image, then compile and flash the kernel.

I remember back to the days of my Moment where we had an option in the recovery to do this easy...

now though since we're using a recovery that's built to work on like 200 different phones, not just one, that's a little thing we loose...
