can this be installed just like the 2.3.5 dump?
I don't see why not. Granted, I don't think anyone's tried it yet, so proceed at your own risk.
But in theory, you could cross some files between the two dumps and flash it successfully.
To acctually flash it, use the uImage included with the touchdroid 2.3.5 release and the following system image:

Well, in theory, if someone were to go through these 2 system images and combine them correctly, we would have a working TP android image with a complete working driver+feature set. I may not be the best canidate for this "someone" as it has been years since I've seriously worked with android. (MS developer now)

Everything's there from the looks of it, but it has been said before by others... all your really NEED from the [older] image are the drivers and such. After all, who WOULDN'T want to use a newer kernel and system in general?

I don't think there's a boot.img (or a actual Kernel for 2.2.1)... all of the stuff the other guys have tried to compile is 2.3.5.

IF we had a boot.img file... (even just the kernel and a ram disk) you could attempt to build something... Combining the system dumps could result in a functional 2.2.1 system.img file... however, without a functional boot.img, this won't do much.
