The mystery is finally over. During Google I/O the next version of Android was referred to as version "L". With the L release, new UI changes and many UX updates were slated to come, better integration with wearables was promised, and application updates which we're already starting to see were teased. The Material Design dream that we first saw in June is now at hand in Lollipop. While Google's troll teaser video from Tuesday was interesting...

...we now have the official statue unveiling (warning: Vertical Video Syndrome may be hazardous to your mental health)...

...and Google's follow-up to its Tuesday teaser.

This will be the 10th named dessert signifing each updated release of the Android mobile operating system. So far we've had Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and Kit Kat. Now that we're all getting ready to lick our lollipops, it's only natural to speculate on the future. The next letter after this L release naturally is M, so the speculation can now begin as to what that dessert will be called. Will it be Marshmallow? Will it be some kind of melon? Will Google pull a play from the Microsoft playbook and name it version N? I look forward to finding out.
