Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure. You should ask them to see what OS is on it before you buy it, and tell them you'll update it yourself. I'm sure they will give you crap about the update tho.Ok so if I run into verizon today and pick up a Maxx HD, am I going to get stuck on JB or will I be on a rootable version if I snag the phone away quickly enough?
I know how to play a paranoid customer well enough I think, I'll tell them I'm concerned about the lag issues I've heard so much about on JB with the HD....Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure. Where is this unlock tool everybody talks about? I sure would like to return to my razr hd if it's unlockable now with custom roms. I sure miss the battery life.there is a root method for 4.1.2 now.. which you can then use the unlock tool. I can confirm the root and unlock tools both work as i just used them both
try this: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/04/09/root-method-released-for-droid-razr-hd-running-android-4-1-2-other-devices-too/

Thought you can use regular bootloader unlock through moto for RAZR iI wish it worked on the Razr I. I have been debating, I will not go back to verizon.
That method is only for rooting the phone.Droid-life or droidrzr.com
No look harder. Go to the front page of droid-rzr.com and the tool is there. If you don't see it there check the forums. That method is only for rooting the phone.
