Anyone have it try it? For $150 seems like a steal.

I love my Nexus 4, but I wouldn't mind trying a windows phone. I think I may pick it up and test it out for a little while.

I'm going to get a Windows Phone for development reasons and have been wanting one for a while, but not for the cost of most Windows Phones. Was mulling over getting the 528, but rather get the 521 now as things like tethering are limited on Windows phones as well (USB only). Won't be my daily usage device though. Microsoft sells them directly, but they're out of stock.

Also some apps need a gig of ram to run (mostly games), just something to make you aware of. However a gig of ram on a Windows phone is like 2gigs or more on Android. Windows is running native code, so requirements are far far less than Android. 521 also supports wifi calling, the first phone I think to do so natively, which is nice.

[sub]got one at walmart last week. $130 + $30 prepaid. Mostly out of curiosity of tmobile service. Surprised by this phone for the money. No front camera and no camera flash are really the only hardware this thing is missing. Windows does everything you need it to, but I think I will stick with android.[/sub]

Yeah the 521 doesn't seem like a contender as a long term device, but I think its good enough to get a good feel for windows 8 without spending a lot of money.

I'm not entirely ready to move away from android, but def want to see what other OS's offer.

Plus WiFi calling is a huge plus, I wish I had this last week when I was out of the country.

Figures I want to buy a windows phone and now I can't find one. Sold out at Walmart and Microsoft. I could probably get one at T-Mobile, but the site lists it for $199 off contract or $149 if you buy it was a plan...that seems like some BS by T-Mobile if they are selling phones cheaper to new customers. Plus I don't want to pay the $35 restocking fee if in a week I realize it sucks.

BestBuy might have it, but they list it for more as well.

Anyone have any suggestions? I rather go to a retail store this way I can have it right away rather than wait. There is also a Microsoft store about 30 min from me, maybe they have it.

Wow just checked best buy and they list it for $300 off contract. I could have sworn yesterday it was $170. They also added a coming soon for a white 521 and list the price as $130 off contract.

Yeah I may have too. Only issue with that is they wanted $170 for the phone (listed online for $150) and I'd ha e to pay $35 restocking fee of I decide I don't want it.

I'm going to do a little bit more searching and see if I can find a better deal.

It was also at the home shopping network for 150 and a 30 day money back guarantee.

I never intended using it for anything other than an app development device, but it runs faster than any Android device I've ever used. If I had swype and could turn off hepatic feedback on the permakeys, I would consider a Windows Phone full time.

Sounds good. Does it have sufficient app support to make it function with ever I currently have being Google (Chrome, Gmail, maps).

I have windows 8 on my laptop and while I have outlook setup for my gmail (which was a pain to setup), I still find myself using the browser (chrome) for email.

There are no browsers other than IE, but you can switch the search to Google.

There's built in support for gmail accounts + contacts + calender.

Maps are Nokia and decent.

Twitter is built into Windows Phones like Windows 8

Also battery life is a million times better than any Android device.

Finally found the phone and after using it for 3 days it will be going back to Walmart.

Windows 8 could have potential, but needs some refinement. Like Yearly said, it is very fast and there is zero lag in whatever actions you are doing which is nice, but its not enough to win me over.

Apps are severely lacking and it seems like most of them you have to buy.

The maps is awful for trying to find something nearby and getting directions to it. I would open it up and search for items and it just wouldn't find them. It gave me the address of three Walmarts and not a single one of those directions was correct (no Walmart at that location when following the navigation).

Windows 8 and the phone itself are great if all you want to do is make phone calls, read email, send texts and occasionally surf the web (the camera is also awful on this model), if you do anything else or depend on certain apps, than the phone and OS won't work for you.

For $130 off contract it is probably the best option out there of you are new to smart phones.

So it was kind of fun for the fee days, maybe I'll revisit windows again in a few years.
