Need some help heyo!

I'm a DX user who is trying to help a good friend of mine gain root access. She has tried every update.zip under the sun apparently. I've tried ADB through CMD with Win98, Vista, Linux, even Superoneclick. She currently is on 2.2 which she manually updated to via KIES.

I know Moto flashes stock software via RSD lite from an SBF file. I'm sure with these Galaxy devices things are different, can anyone please help us with the correct process to get back to 2.1 or back to a place where we can gain root access and help her gain full access to her phone.

Thanks for reading,
Diz

Superoneclick _should_ root a 3e recovery (stock Froyo) Captivate. There's thread somewhere on XDA for a 2e recovery flashback for Froyo though.

However, if you want complete control over everything on the device... (this is Eclair with 2e recovery!) try this: ODIN3 One Click UCJF6

What I suggest is you just flash stock KF1 Gingerbread and then flash designgear's pre-rooted kernel. It's pretty nice. Here's the ODIN One Click for it.
You can find designgear's kernel *here*.

EDIT: BTW... the RSDLite-like app for the Galaxy S series is ODIN. You'll need 1.7 or 1.83 for the Galaxy S devices.

Thanks for the responses guys. At work now, but going to try the methods mentioned above after I get home.

Thanks Rootzwiki!
Still at it, none of the mentioned techinques are getting anywhere. Any other possible leads?

Error that we keep getting is signature verification failed.
AIO captivate toolbox make sure you put on debugging its like an adb push works for me when others dont

Well for what worked was z4root, then pushing 3e_recovery to modify the updater so cwm can be installed for custom ROMs can install...this has worked on cyanogenmod and miui for sure...not sure about other roms

I also installed the modified 3e recovery to get mine open. I did:

Super One Click to root -> flashed updated 3e recovery that allows unsigned updates -> installed CWR.

Then it all went according to plan.
