Hi there, Internet! Remember us?

It's time once again for another ground-breaking, earth-shattering, mind-blowing release. We've got something super-special and creamy for y'all to taste.

If you thought CyanogenMod 7 was great, this alpha is *two* CyanogenMods better. That's right, introducing CyanogenMod 9 for Touchpad, Alpha 0! That's a "zero" as in "zero hardware-accelerated video", "zero camera", and "zero support!"

There's one other zero we'd like to mention. Zero reasons to not give you the source code. So, for the first time, we're making ALL the source for the HP Touchpad for CyanogenMod 9 available for you to build CyanogenMod 9 yourself from scratch.

Now that the source is open we would love to see fellow developers contribute bug fixes and improvements. This is something that does not happen enough in the Android world and we'd love to change that trend. Please feel free to contact us in #cyanogenmod-touchpad to get involved and to discuss current and future developments.

And... we're going to tell you how to build it yourself with an easy-to-follow walkthrough.

So here it is, Ice Cream Sandwich (CyanogenMod 9) for Touchpad!

But please, before you do anything, read this document in full. And have fun out there. Love one another.

Yours forever and ever and EVER,

The CyanogenMod Touchpad Team

Alpha0.6 Release notes:

Another minor release. While working on bigger problems that will take a while I wanted to push out an update for some things that have happened in the last few days. This is primarily to get Flemmard's work out for more testing. This contains the start of CyanogenMod settings. However, most of the settings are not functional on tablets yet.

With this release I will also provide two flashable zips to allow you to easily switch between lcd density 120 and 160. The default is still 160 because it offers the greatest compatibility. Any lcd density value between 160 and 120 will ruin market compatibility. For those that would like a "higher resolution" look and feel, you may flash the 120 lcd density update.zip. This will copy a new build.prop and will update the launcher for proper display. I strongly recommend changing the font size in Settings->System->Fonts if you chose to do this. The 160 lcd density update is provided to easily revert the change.
  • Touchscreen fixes
  • Ability to hide the combined bar(navigation buttons and clock) for full screen. This uses the ICS api so it will require app support(not all apps have been updated). This is an option under Settings->[Interface]->System->Combined Bar (Credits to Flemmard)
  • Scrollable quick settings. This will require tweaking later to allow it to be bigger on the Touchpad but fixes overflow issue on 7" tablets with the new Bluetooth toggle. (Credits to Flemmard)
  • Reboot to recovery is working via the power menu(hold down power button). Note: reboot will sometimes shutdown rather than rebooting.
  • Preliminary support for Rom Manager. In order to use this you will need Rom Manager Premium because it is not official yet. In order to use it you will need to execute "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" in Rom Manager. Confirm the model is cm_tenderloin, say yes that you have installed manually, and check ClockworkMod 3.x. Now you can use Rom Manager to flash update.zips. Official support should come soon.
  • Other general changes from syncing with latest changes
Alpha0.5 Release notes:

This is a minor release that bundles fixes that were previously a separate download and a few other things:======================================

AND NOW, SOME STUFF...

(But first, here's a little disclaimer you should read several times before you continue.)

ALL DISCLAIMERS FROM CYANOGENMOD 7 ALPHA 1-3.5 APPLY EQUALLY TO THIS VERSION. BE SURE TO REVIEW THEM. THE USE OR ATTEMPTED USE OF CYANOGENMOD 9 ALPHA 0 MAY RESULT IN VERY BAD THINGS TO YOU, YOUR TOUCHPAD, YOUR DATA, YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND LOVED ONES. TRY CYANOGENMOD 9 ALPHA 0 ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

FORGET WHAT WORKS. WHAT *DOESN'T* WORK?

Yeah, let's focus on the negative. Some (but not all) things that DO NOT WORK:
  • Hardware Video (OMX). As a result, Netflix does not work, YouTube works only only in non-HD videos. Use something like MXPlayer and SW codecs for your local media.
  • Audio is a mess. The microphone does not work. Work on the current libaudio solution has halted because we will eventually switch to a CAF libaudio.
  • Camera does not work. The only libcamera.so that we have is from froyo and its closed source. There is a wrapper for QCOM gingerbread libcamera libraries that could likely be used as a basis to get our camera working.
  • Market filters prevent some apps from being installed (this can partly solved by switching back to standard DPI settings(120, 160, 240). The current build is using 160 which fixes the market but makes everything look ugly and low resolution.
  • Titanium Backup crashes the kernel. There's an investigation in progress...There are reports that older versions do work.(Fixed alpha0.5)
  • Most of the hardware problems from CM7 still exist in this CM9 alpha build.
  • Gapps intended for CM7/Gingerbread will not work in CM9/ICS. If you choose to install GAPPS then you'll need to get an updated compilation
  • USB file transfers use MTP or PTP in Ice Cream Sandwich and Honeycomb. Traditional storage mounting is not supported in the Touchpad build.
CAN I UPDATE *DIRECTLY* FROM CYANOGENMOD 7?

Yes. And you can try it even without a wipe of /data. The key is to use ACMEInstaller2 (see link below) rather than the ClockWorkMod Recovery to do the installation. If you use the ClockWorkMod Recovery, you'll run into troubles, and though CyanogenMod 9 will install, you'll need to reset(format) your data.

Our testing has shown that ACMEInstaller2 will resolve the issues. Your results may vary, but it may be worth using it to upgrade. Especially since newer versions of Titanium backup will crash on start up.

The process for using ACMEInstaller2 is exactly the same as when you first installed CyanogenMod 7.

I'VE NOT INSTALLED ANY VERSION OF CYANOGENMOD BEFORE. HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Please read all previous instructions/documentations for CyanogenMod 7. Start with the instructions for Alpha 1, then 2, 3, and 3.5. This should bring you up to speed with how to install and what to expect.

ACMEInstaller2 is the latest version of the installer and will do it all for you. You will need the files at the end of this document:

ACMEInstaller2 and update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-alpha0-Touchpad-fullofbugs.zip and
ClockWorkMod Recovery
bootie (?)

CAN I MAKE A TRI-BOOT SYSTEM? (WebOS, CM7, and CM9)

Yes, but don't bother. There may be instructions forthcoming on this, but it's a bit advanced - just pick one.

WHO IS ON THE CYANOGENMOD TEAM ANYWAY?!

We are a shadowy, frequently-cloaked collective of extremely talented and dedicated individuals. We are legion. Expect us.

Oh, but seriously. You have Ice Cream Sandwich now, so does it matter? You can view some of the developers who are involved by simply glancing through the commit history in the device git repository, going all the way back to CyanogenMod 7. However, keep in mind that some code may have been written by one person, refined by others, and committed by yet another, generally with acknowledgement in the commit notes.

Really thought. It's about the work and the fun, not the credit.

SO WHERE CAN I GET SOURCE CODE?

The device repository is public with this alpha release and everybody can build their version now.HOW DO I BUILD THIS?

See the guide here:

Please thank fattire(@fat_tire) for making the guide

WHERE DO I GET ADDITIONAL HELP?WHERE CAN I GET UPDATES ON DEVELOPMENT?
  • You can add me on Google+ http://goo.gl/A9NuM or follow @dalingrin on twitter for updates
  • #cyanogenmod-touchpad on freenode
  • At least some of the developers will be around rootzwiki forums

After a night of playing with ICS, I think I've found some more video bugs. I found that if I rotate portrait -> landscape -> portrait quickly, sometimes the video freaks out and gets all distorted and screwy. Things are still responsive though, and overlays (such as the notifications popup) will work and look fine, and sometimes I can get it to go back to normal by hitting power twice to cycle to standby and back on. Other times I have to reboot.

On a positive note, I did see that the stock video player now play's MKV's. That's nice.

Also, a feature request (is there a way to officially submit these to the TouchPad or general CM team?) If you could add a toggle to turn bluetooth on/off on the notification popup like wifi has, that would be sweet.

Installed via acme-installer installed newest gaaps, app fixer and ui update.

Couple of questions:
1. market will not download, show insufficient storage space
2. cannot connect to computer via usb as drivers will not install
3. does not have reboot menu when holding down power button
4. what is the best dpi to set screen res at?

thanks

Couple of questions:
1. market will not download, show insufficient storage space-try reisntalling market through clockwork mod, ensure its a compatible one listed multiple times in this thread
2. cannot connect to computer via usb as drivers will not install-ensure the usb option is activated in the settings. (MTP)
3. does not have reboot menu when holding down power button-This option is not in ICS.
4. what is the best dpi to set screen res at? recommended to keep at 160, some people say changing natively to 132 is working.

thanks

I have been running ics for 2 days now i installed using acme2 this was a clean install, i love it but the wifi just will not work properly
i think this needs to be the priority on here as without it ics is useless
a couple of things i have noticed when link speed is 72mbps every thing is great super fast, but if it drops to 65mbps it shows connected but will not work it has to be reset. webos wifi is super stable
i also notice that if i leave tablet overnight i have to do a hard reset as unlock screen unresponsive.

for me alpha 3.5 was even worse with the wifi, it forced me to go back to webos just for stability.

i am using a virgin superhub set to channel 6 wireless i have also used auto setting with no luck, 2.4ghz wpa/wpa2 5ghz turned off
i have also done a clean install again with no luck
my you tube even works fine, no sound issues and even if i press hd button all ok just this bloody wifi
i had the battery issue but installed the patch no problem
if anyone has any ideas please feel free to mention.

well done mod team i really do appreciate your efforts

I have had zero issues with ICS. No wifi problems, no freeze after overnight. It might be your specific device or setup.

edit: no big issues like you're describing. I got some of the documented audio issues.

I've applied the charger/ui fix (twice) yet the touchpad charge level is still diminishing while plugged in and running. If I switch over to webos the charge level rises as expected. I've wiped all data via CWM; no help.

On the Settings/Battery screen it says "Battery usage data not available" though I'm not sure if this is expected.

Ideas?

Is there anyone who knows how to hide the tablet bar (containing back, home, and time notifications) at the bottom left hand corner of ICS ? I cant get it disappear when i watch movies in full screen (besides youtube) or when playing games. A little frustrating... please comment if you know any tricks. Thanks.

besides that everything in this alpha release works great. Better wifi signals than CM7.

You need a different launcher. CM9's launcher is Trebuche and does not have the same features as ADW Launcher had in the CM7 alphas. I looked and did not see ADW Launcher in the market, only ADW EX which is a pay app. You may be able to extract the ADW apk from a cm7 zip and side load it and see how it works. It will give you the ability to minimize the tool bar at the bottom of the screen.

It will be once we have three CM9 settings fully integrated....not available yet.

Am I the only one having trouble with "Reboot into Recovery" from the rom manager app? It will take you back to moboot, then if you choose cwm it will begin to load and give you an error screen. Force shutdown with home and power button, then power back on will allow you to once again boot into cwm and it will load this time around.

One hundred twenty five pages and 1247 posts as I write this post. Is anyone having trouble following a train of thought or finding help? This thread is only a fews days old. What happens in a week or two? We need to ask the moderators to close or lock this thread and move the discussion to a forum style discussion. That way every question, comment, request for help becomes the subject of a seperate thread. I'm sure everyone knows this forum,

http://rootzwiki.com/forum/217-hp-touchpad/page__prune_day__100__sort_by__Z-A__sort_key__last_post__topicfilter__all

If not, go look how much easier it is to follow a thread or train of thought. Please, eveyone ask the moderators to create a forum for this discussion and close this thread to posting. It is already useless or soon will be.

Thanks,

I agree things aren't as clear as they can be. On the first page, there is no links to gapps or gapps fixer. I recalled a post by Redflea, so I knew to search for it, but according to the OP, all you do is load CM9 and the system/charge fix.

Hey guys, first off I want to start by saying thank you for the hard work and dedication you put into this project. I had some problems getting cm9 installed it was hanging at the green loading screen. I finally found a video on youtube that had a zip folder containing the files and I downloaded them from his site. I did the cmd install via acmeinstaller2 and it worked flawlessly. I had downloaded the files from this site 3 different times but I guess some were between my computer and the site it was not downloading properly. Hope this may help if someone else is having the same problem I had. Thanks again guys you all rock.

Hi,
Thanks to everyone and especially the team for putting this together.
I have installed ICS, Gapps on my touchpad last night.
it was working fine till this afternoon and after I come back from office I could not unlock the screen. The TP is not taking any touch input.
I have hard restarted my touchpad and now my TP is coming back up. it seems like it is dead.
Can someone please help?

#1,291 ·
well, looks like i'm sol. TP hasn't responded within the past 24 hours. didn't try to hack, mess with the tables, install gapps, overclock, or anything. was just following instruction.
hasn't turned on with various attempts.
Bummer...so you're using the HP charger/cable, using USB not the dock, and have let it sit to charge for a long time and no go?

If you're under warranty, and I assume you are since they TP hasn't been out very long, and it's really looking dead, why not return it to HP? Worst case they find out it has Android on it and hassle you about the warranty, but it may actually be a coincidental HW issue.
