CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.

Code:
<br />
** These CyanogenMod builds are highly experimental and unsupported.<br />
**<br />
** Please refrain from submitting bug reports for any issues<br />
** you may encounter while running one of these builds.<br />

** Submitting bug reports on nightly builds is the leading <br />
** cause of male impotence.
Warning : Not for new users, flash this build only if you know what you are doing !!!

Check the md5sum if you want to be sure that the download worked (different OSes have different programs that do md5, on ubuntu it is md5sum that you run against the zip you download and compare to the md5sum number shown on the download website). ROMManager does this automatically for ROMs you download via ROMManager.

INSTRUCTIONS:

:::: First time flashing CM 7 to your Galaxy S2 (or coming from another ROM)?

Easy way:
  1. Start with a rooted device (do not ask us how to do this).
  2. Install ROMManager Premium.
  3. Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Samsung Galaxy S2.
  4. Make sure you can reboot into ClockworkMod recovery from ROMManager. Reboot and get back into ROMManager Premium.
  5. Choose download ROMs.
  6. Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
  7. Check the Google Apps addon.
  8. Check Backup current ROM!
  9. Check wipe data, cache, dalvik cache. (We're not kidding! Wipe)
  10. Let ROMManager finish the installation.

Harder way:
  1. Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery (http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php...-Recovery-4.0.1.4-Initramfs-Template-for-Devs)
  2. Do a Nandroid backup!
  3. WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) - do it for real.
  4. Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
  5. Optionally install the Google Addon (through ROMManager is easiest)

:::: Upgrading from earlier CM7?

ROM Manager method:
  1. Install ROMManager Premium.
  2. Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Samsung Galaxy S2.
  3. Choose Download ROMs.
  4. Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies.
  5. Check the Google Apps addon.
  6. Check Backup current ROM!
  7. Check wipe cache, dalvik cache.
  8. Let ROMManager finish the installation.

Clockwork Mod method:
  1. Download and push the ROM zip file to the sdcard.
  2. Reboot into recovery.
  3. Do a Nandroid Backup!
  4. Install the ROM zip from sdcard (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)

There are no Google Apps bundled with CM ROMs, because Google asked Cyanogen to remove copyrighted apps. After flashing the rom, don't forget to flash Google Addon package if you want it. ROM Manager will allow you to flash it if you just go into it and after flashing the ClockworkMod recovery for Samsung Galaxy S2, choose Download ROMs, and pick Google Apps. Or download and push the gapps zip for CM7 from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version#Google_Apps to the sdcard and flash it via ClockworkMod recovery.

:::: Going to another ROM from CM7?

You can go back and forth freely between CM7 and other ROMs via ROM Manager or ClockworkMod recovery as the file systems are the same and nandroid backup/restore works to go between ROMs.

Please visit the CyanogenMod Wiki for step-by-step installation walkthroughs and tons of other useful information.

Nice to see Teamhacksung here too.

Is this for the T-Mobile SGS II version as well?

Edit: is development paused for 2.3.5 due to ICS being developed?
As most people would know the buildbot is with vacation so there won't be nightlies for CM7
The latest build of CM7 for SGS2 can be found on codeworkx blog

I'm a newbie with an AT&T Galaxy SII I777 and hope I'm in the right place for help with my questions. If not please point me in the right direction.
About Phone
Android version 2.3.7
Basband I777UCKK6
Kernel 2.6.35.7-g6277c46

I have problems with the 4 buttons (navigation at bottom) with the lights staying on sometimes when I turn off the screen and they stay on which will drain the battery. Sometimes a reboot fixes it and I have tried all the options from never on to 5, 10 seconds and etc but it is pretty quirky. I also don't know how to update the Cyangenmod7 nightlys and wondered if I should even do them. I'm good with PC's but this Android phone rooting stuff is very different to me so I may ask some dumb questions here.

I also have the battery with NFC on it and can see it in programs since rooting the phone but can't turn it on. I was wanting to use Google Wallet but thats really not a big deal for right now, but its part of the reason I bought the phone. I realize that AT&T is the main problem with their own competing software to the Wallet, but do I really have an NFC capable phone in the first place and will I eventually be able to turn the NFC on?

I saw the info above for the Mod updates but I think a step may be missing.
  • Install ROMManager Premium. DID THAT
  • Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Pick Samsung Galaxy S2. DID THAT
  • Choose Download ROMs. DID THAT
  • Pick the CyanogenMod Nightlies. SAW SEVERAL WITH #20 AS LATEST ONE BUT DIDN'T CHOSE ONE BECAUSE I DIDN'T SEE GOOGLE APPS YET
  • Check the Google Apps addon. DON'T SEE THIS BUT MAYBE THIS IS THE STEP I'M MISSING THAT COMES AFTER CHOSING THE #20
  • Check Backup current ROM! DIDN'T GO ANY FURTHER BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW WHERE THE GOOGLE APPS WILL COME UP
  • Check wipe cache, dalvik cache. I'M FAMILAIR WITH THIS
  • Let ROMManager finish the installation I UNDERSTAND
When picking a nightly rommanager will ask you to download and install gapps to
