CM9 Official Nightly Discussion Thread

UPDATED: Official 20120707 has new Audio Libs, Adreno Drivers and new Wifi Drivers ATH6KL v4.4 added !

Objective: For those that Flash the official nightlies to post questions, concerns, updates and fixes. We are here for each other. We are community.

The Official Nightly is for those that want to be current with updates, in other words the BLOODY edge of the blade. This discussion forum is for the official nightlies that come out when CM releases them. They are not on a schedule nor are they released nightly. Check the below link for the most recent ROM.

There are a few that ask if the wipes can be done before the flash of the ROM and GAPPs and yes they can. I have experienced that the wipe works best after, but the wipes can be done before. It is up to the individual doing the flash. You can wipe as much as you like before or after the flash.

Do a Nandriod Backup with your recovery, such as CWM or TWRP.
1. Flash current nightly http://get.cm/?device=tenderloin
2. Flash current GApps http://goo-inside.me/gapps
3. Wipe cache and dalvik with your recovery.
4. Reboot and enjoy.

QUICK TROUBLE SHOOTING
> If you have problems with bootloops try wiping Dalvik and Cache once again. This works most of the time. If those wipes don't work try a factory wipe along with dalvik and cache, bewarned that a factory wipe will clear all of your app and user data, but this might be good if the data is causing the bootloops. It has been reported that factory wipes in some cases help a great deal. If you use TiBu, just remember, before restoring your data why you wiped it to begin with. If you restore you might be restoring the problem.
> If you have problems flashing, check the MD5 of the file to see if it matches the download link. The majority of the flash failures are caused by bad downloads.

> If you have WIFI issues click here to follow Nevertells FIX summary http://rootzwiki.com..._10#entry557589

> USB won't connect to PC: Settings/Storage/Menu (3 dots upper right)/USB computer connection/check Media Device (MTP). Then Settings/Developer options/Uncheck Andriod Debugging. Then you should be able to connect.

Please PM with suggestions.

Know issues:

Camera is broken

VPN is broken

For Gapps issues flash this https://www.box.com/...c28d6d80fb71bdb (Gapps Fixer) only if current Gapps are broken. Issue is unknown at this point.
*** NEW GApps Available gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip*** TRY THESE FIRST!
(Always try to flash current Gapps)
CM7 had this issue and it was caused by the incorrect date and time setting, check this first. The best case scenario would be to wipe cache, factory wipe and wipe dalvik then reflash rom and gapps, this should correct the problem, but if it doesn't try the Gapps Fixer.

Thanks and enjoy.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO JCSULLINS FOR ALL OF THE TENDERLOIN ATTENTION!

I would like to thank first and foremost the CyanogenMod team for making this possible. Without the hard work of Dalingrin and all of the devs that have put their talents into this ROM we wouldn't have ICS. Thank you.

I would also like to thank Eyeballer for his unofficial nightlys for keeping us on the BLOODY edge. Thank you.

Reverend Kyle, Thank you for always looking out for our HP TouchPad COMMUNITY!

Reverend Kyle's App REVTV.

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO NEVERTELLS THAT ALWAYS TRIES TO HELP WHEN NEEDED!

Remember, the devs and Reverend Kyle devote their free time to ensure we have a great experience with our HP TouchPads. If they have a contribute button buy them a beer! Cheers!

THIS OP HAS BEEN THE WORK OF ALL INVOLVED HELPING SOLVE PROBLEMS AND BRINGING UP ISSUES! THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!!! WE ARE COMMUNITY!!!

Thank you to all United States and allies for your grand service. (I, of course, appreciate you!) I will end with Semper Fidelis! (This is a very Marine thing but it actually calls to all of us!)

I have read through the merges that you've presented (thank you for that), and I've been 'lightly' following the unofficial nightlies thread. I was wondering, for those of us running CM9, Alpha 2, what are the immediately noticable differences between the A2 and the latest nightlies, as of 3/31? (it's only been about a month)

I see:
1. Improved translations to non-English language elements. Specifically, Polish, Japanese, French, Korean, Croatian, Dutch, Russian, Turkish
2. Removal of Root access (while this is the most secure thing to do, I do wonder how it impacts how apps run)
3. Touchscreen stuff? What's so different about it?
4. Facebook Contact Sync - how is this different than what's in A2?
5. NTFS Read only support - where does it add this?
6. New boot animation
7. There are a couple of DSP fixes mentioned, does that mean audio clipping is a thing of the past on the TP?

How about camera? Any WiFi improvements?

Thanks for the info, and while I understand this thread is mostly for help in flashing the nightlies, given that it's a new thread, I thought it'd be a nice place to summarize the progress that's been made...

The recent Official nightly includes ICS 4.0.4, Google's newest release, which is much smoother and faster than ICS 4.0.3. CM still has not fixed the camera or microphone. They also include the new wifi drivers, which report to help, but wifi is an individual and I personally have not had any issues with wifi. The root access change is located in settings/developers option and you can set it as you wish. I have mine set fully rooted.

What I have noticed is that 20120329 nightly has increased responce and is a little more stable. Just keep in mind to always have a back up and we are on the bleeding edge of the ROM.

Excellent, succinct response, thank you.

I'll also add here the relevant element from the home page post: "there is a noticeable increase in smoothness from previous official builds and some users are reporting Antutu Benchmark improvements of up to 400 points without the need to install any of the driver add-ons - the Adreno 2XX drivers, for example - that had become commonly used to bolster device performance. These builds are being released still running the 2.6.35 kernel; CM Developer Dalingrin is working on getting the 3.0 kernel ready but there is no target release date at this time."

I'm almost ready to dive into nightlies, but I need to run some backups first.
BTW, I've really liked this community... I mostly lurk, but have been impressed with most peoples' attitudes and skillbase. Nice is good. :)

I've moved this topic to the official CyanogenMod Touchpad subforum. I'll be directing traffic to this thread from the official Alpha 2 thread for discussion of nightly builds.

I never thought I would see android run so well on the touch pad, much less be running this well and still have many planned improvements. You guys are truly amazing.

Just loaded my first nightly. I didn't do a full wipe though. From CM9A2 I just wiped cache and dalvik, then flashed the latest nightly plus gapps. Only thingtartup that doesn't seem to work is the Play Market. Won't startup. I cleared data, but no luck.
Try the gapps fixer(http://androidforums.com/hp-touchpad/491926-guide-cm9-your-touchpad.html ). That remedied my issue of only the play sore not opening correctly. Install it via CWM.

(If anyone has a more direct link to the fixer, by all means post it.)

Cool that worked! The link at that site didn't work, but I googled gapps fixer and found a working dropbox link posted on some other forum. http://db.tt/U4goYFpw

I was doing a fresh install and found I am unable to install the nightly directly. When I did it would just hang and not switch from "loading" to the boot animation. I had to install A2 first, then nightly - then I was able to boot up fine. Is that intentional or a bug?

This might be caused by a bad download. It is always good practice to ensure the checksums are the same, if not then the download is the cause. As for flashing nightlys on a clean install it would be the same as anyother flash. The nightly would be sufficient to put on the Tpad. Always do a nandriod back up just in case and always check the download.

I had a similar problem. When I went from CM9 Alpha0.6 to Alpha1 and from Alpha1 to Alpha2, I "Wipe Data / Factory Reset" and " Format System" before installing the new update + gapps. No problems. A few weeks ago I tried the same process with Alpha2 to a random nightly build. The nightly build would just boot loop at the "loading" screen. After performing the same "Wipe Data / Factory Reset" and " Format System", I reflash Alpha2 and it worked perfectly.

This time, I tried the same process from Alpha2 to the official nightly update-cm-9-20120329-NIGHTLY-tenderloin-signed.zip. Checked the md5sum under Terminal on the Touchpad after I transfered the file(s) over. Everything matched (along with new gapps). Same problem, boot loop at the loading screen.

Then reflashed Alpha2 + gapps. Everything again worked perfectly. Next, I did a regular update from Alpha2 to nightly, wiping cache and dalvik after. This worked!!!. I know I should be able to flash a clean nightly build, but for some reason, I'm not able to. Perhaps moboot needs to be updated???

Which Moboot version are you running? 0.3.5 works like a charm.
installed latest nightly and gapps. Had the problem of play store not working also.

Tried gapps fixer mentioned a few posts back without success, however a second install of gapps via cwm, wiping cache and davlik again before reboot did the trick.

looking forward to using my first official nightly. Great work guys, thanks for all the great effort.
