*** DISCLAIMER ***

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP YOUR PHONE! OR IF YOU LOSE ANY DATA, ITS CALLED BACK IT UP BEFORE HAND!

Word to the wise if you don't know how to use RSDLite or Fastboot to restore your phone then leave this thread now please! I will not attempt to simplify this down anymore. I learned everything I know about modifying Android from reading, reading, trial and error, then reading some more. There is a reason I don't have a high post count on here or XDA I read just about every post in most threads or I Google the problem I'm having. So I have no time or sympathy for people that ask stupid or redundant questions. You need to backup everything on your internal storage before you install this, because to switch back to 4.2.2 and possibly 4.4 you will have to RSD back to stock. This needs to be flashed to the STOCK SLOT and the 4.4.2 KitKat Kernel and Baseband needs to be flashed for it to work. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

Okay this is a stock unmodified(3c_ota.apk is the only apk removed) rooted rom of the 4.4.2 KitKat OTA with full Safestrap functionality, except for restoring back to 4.2.2 and possibly 4.4 I can't test 4.4. To go back to 4.2.2 you will have to restore back using RSD or Fastboot. I've been running this all day, and so far no issues have surfaced. I haven't tested ART yet but it should work fine. You will need to have the phone's drivers installed to get this working, so click the link below to download them and install them before you start. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/94931/p/30,6720,8696

Instructions to install this rom for Safestrap Users, read every step before you start...

1. You need to be rooted on 4.2.2 or 4.4 with Safestrap installed

2. You also need to have disabled write protection via MotoWpNoMo

3. Boot into Safestrap Recovery

4. Factory Reset the STOCK Slot in Safestrap DO NOT wipe the /system it can cause issues

5. Flash the Rom zip to the STOCK Slot (this will take a couple minutes)

6. Once the Rom has finished flashing, reboot to the Bootloader within Safestrap

7. Plug your Moto X via usb cable into your computer the Bootloader screen should say usb connected now

8. Unzip the "Moto X Kernel and Radio Flasher.zip"

9. Open the extracted folder and find the FlashMyMotoX.bat and run it

10. Choose option 8 within the FlashMyMotoX utility to flash the 4.4.2 KitKat Kernel

11. Once it finishes get back to the options and choose option 9 this will flash the 4.4.2 KitKat Baseband

12. Once it finishes successfully unplug your usb cable and reboot the phone

13. Enjoy 4.4.2 KitKat!

For Unlocked Users

1. Boot into TWRP 2.7 (recommended that's what I use to test) factory reset then install the rom.

2. If you were on 4.4.2 already then reboot and enjoy if you weren't on 4.4.2 then continue to step 3.

3. Once done installing reboot to the bootloader from within TWRP.

4. Once on the bootloader screen plug your usb cable into your Moto X the screen should say usb connected.

4. Extract and run my utility choose option 9 to flash the 4.4.2 Baseband.

5. Reboot and Enjoy 4.4.2!

So, if we're coming from 4.4--that would mean that our SD card area isn't wiped--correct? I don't know too much about how Safestrap is handled, as I'm only used to using Nexus phones, hehe.

If you RSD back to 4.2.2 it will wipe your internal storage unfortunately or if you factory reset with the stock recovery. But if you use Safestrap then no it won't wipe your storage.
Zip in first link is bad (tried to download twice). Had to download mirror to get a good one. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Bad as in can't download it, or bad as in it won't install after you download it?
damnnit, i just flashed 4.4.2 a few days ago. I hope someone figures out how to fix wp

Bad zip - won't install. Safestrap says "unable to open zip file" and can't open in Windows either. Tried it twice. Trying other mirrors now, but so far all are failing. I'm stuck here. Can someone give me a link to good rom zip please?

Did you try both The first link and the drive mirror?

The drive mirror from the first page of this thread works. Thanks. It seems all the mirrors on AndroidFileHost.com are bad.

Thanks for letting me know I checked md5's and the file was bad I'm reuploading now!
Just updated the OP with the new link and I compared the md5's and they match this time!

Thanks a lot for this!

Any chance you could put together packages for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint? If it's not too much trouble.

EDIT: Just read an earlier post where you said you would put an AT&T one together once the SBF is available. I think the other carriers would be appreciated, too, but maybe I'm the only one who prefers not to unlock the bootloader just yet.
How long does it take to flash the ROM? I'm about 10 minutes in, still says 'flashing file 1 of 1'. Top status window says 'Formatting System'.

Thanks in advance.

Mine took 10-15 mins

Hmm...I don't have write protect disabled. Guess maybe it's cause I never ran MotoWPNoMo. I'm not willing to run that, so I guess I'll just go back to 4.4. Oh well.
Do you need to disable Xposed and any other hacks to run this? I looked through and didn't see anything about that.

Normally takes 5-15 mins I normally walk out of the room so I don't touch it.

You can attempt to install this without running MotoWpNoMo, but you will have flash the 4.4.2 kernel to the recovery partition. I wasn't able to on mine it threw a HAB error I figured it was the security check they put into place to prevent disabling write protection that way. So I bit the bullet and ran MotoWpNoMo so I could also keep the stock recovery.

No just do a factory reset in safestrap then install the rom!
So I followed these steps exactly and the results have been baffling. This may be a noob question but regardless I'm confused. I completed all the steps and I did the final reboot using Safestrap in recovery mode. Now Root Checker says I have root and my system about me confirms I am on 4.4.2 However when I look for the safestrap app it is no where to be found and I cannot confirm if I have read/write off. When I reboot the phone I can reboot into safestrap (although it displays an image that says safestrap is disabled) which further confuses me. Lastly when I reboot my phone now I get a message that quifckly flashes by that says something like "e: bitmap missing nonsafe" My questions are I have no idea what this means, should I be concerned since it just boots normally after that? And do I have read write protection off? How do I get safestrap as an app now?

Thanks!

First thing is the Safestrap app isn't included in the rom because once you have Safestrap recovery installed you don't need the app, second thing is Safestrap's splash screen will say disabled if you are booting on the stock slot. This is because Safestrap's original purpose was to create multiple virtual rom slots to flash roms to and not touching the stock partition, this creates a safe system in case something goes wrong you could always boot back to the stock slot. But on the Moto X there have been several issues with flashing roms to virtual slots, also most people on Verizon have limited space since we didn't get the 32gb version until after 3-4 months after release. So it will say disabled since this rom should be installed on the stock slot!

If you followed the directions, then you should have ran MotoWpNoMo before you installed this and shouldn't have to worry about if you have write protection off. But if you want to actually check download the terminal emulator app from the play store then run this command getprop ro.boot.write_protect it should return a 0 if it returns a 1 then either you didn't run MotoWpNoMo or it didn't work and you need to run it again.

Thank you so much Kryptonite for the help!! All of this is starting to make sense now. I have downloaded an emulator app an ran the getprop command. Unfortunately I got a 1 which means something went wrong somewhere. If I simply run MotoWpNoMo again at this point in the process should that solve my issues? Or do I need to revert back to a previous step before carrying this out again? Thanks again!

Edit: Also it appears that the MotoWpNoMo application isn't downloadable anywhere. The link in the XDA thread where it was originally posted is dead. Not sure where to go from here.

Edit 2: Found the link to the MotoWpNoMo program and about to run it. wish me luck!
