Heimdall Driver Install

1. Put your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 into download mode using "adb reboot download".

2. Run zadig.exe included in the Drivers subdirectory.

3. From the menu chose Options -> List All Devices.

4. From the USB receiver drop down list chose "Samsung".

5. Press the "Install/ replace Driver"button, click "Yes" to the prompt and if you receive
a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver
click "Install this driver software anyway".

6. Done

heimdall flash --kernel IML74K_P3113UEALD3_unsecuredboot.img

Step 2 - Boot up, enable debugging and run the following commands via adb
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb shell rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh

1. Download recovery.tar.md5.
2. Copy cwm-root-gtab2.zip to your ext SDCard ("Card" in Windows Explorer).
3. Download Odin for windows. (If you cannot see your device, just install the usb drivers from samsung kies)
4. Make sure your device is not plugged in via USB.
5. Make sure your device is in "USB debugging" mode.
   • Navigate through Menu>Settings>Developer Options and check the "USB debugging" option.

• Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
• Reboot your tablet into download mode. By either one of these options:
  • Power off the tablet. Hold the Volume Down button and Power button. Volume up to confirm download mode.
  • If you have adb installed run 'adb reboot download' from a command prompt.
• Launch Odin, click PDA and browse to the recovery.tar.md5 file (unless you moved it, it will be in your user downloads folder).
• Hit start, when completed your tablet will reboot.
• Reboot your tablet into recovery mode. By either one of these options:
  • Power off the tablet. Hold down the Volume Up button and Power button. When you see the "Galaxy Tab" logo release Power but continue holding Volume Up.
  • If you have adb installed run 'adb reboot recovery' from a command prompt.
• In the CWM menu (the menu will be in the upper left corner of the now landscape mode screen) navigate to "install zip from sdcard" (volume keys navigate) and press power to select.
• Select "choose zip from sdcard".
• Navigate to the "cmw-root-gtab2.zip" you saved to your sd card earlier (it should be the only option if you have not used any other root methods).
• Wait for the install to complete, shouldn't take long.
• Select "go back" from the menu at the top, back out two menus then select the reboot device option.
• Your device will restart. On the first restart you will see it "Update Android".
• Profit!

Ok so I get to step 6 in the Heimdall install but I can not find the command line? Please help I can not figure out how to get CMW back on my tab after the update! you use odin and download mode. l would suggest you spend a lot more time reading to avoid issues. what is your objective? do you want root or a rom you can develop? in odin the file is pointed to using the pda option.

[Added:] Prior to the event described below, my OS version was IC 4.0.3 and I had used Odin to successfully load/flash the recovery.tar.md5. I believe that I have all the files I need (and then some) incl gt-p3110.pit, cwm-root-gtab2.zip, espresso_recovery.tar.md5, unsecure imgs, rootet deodexed zip, etc.

I would appreciate it if someone could provide a suggestion, please. I followed the procedure outlined in posting #23. After Step 1 when I try to reboot, the screen freezes displaying Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 logo. Also on the screen in small upper case red letters against a white background is the message ABORT IN SBL.

Has someone (obviously more talented than I) thought about possibly taking one of these pre-rooted stock images and creating a Odin flashable system.img.ext4 file from this?

The reason I ask is that I am researching (actually becoming obsessed) with the possibility of rooting without tripping the flash counter, and it looks like there has been some work similar to this done on the Galaxy Note. Again this would only provide root on a stock ROM (which is what I care about for the moment), but it appears there also some more work/thought about using adb command lines to get CWM on later (again w/o tripping the counter).

I'm was researching on some scripts that folks have been working with to convert CWMs to System.img.ext4 files, but I'll be honest that I'm not a Linux guy, so compiling is way out of my technical realm - else I'd do it myself.

I'm a SGSII user and have had to warranty my phone in the past, so I'm pretty paranoid about staying away from that counter as best as possible.

Here's the reference that kind of got me started down this line of thinking after pulling apart some ROMs and other images that some of these guys posted. Theoretically it makes sense since you aren't messing with unsecured kernels, you work around the counter trip mechanism -- but the key is getting that pre-rooted Odin flashable system image first, which should theoretically be able to be created/compiled from the ROMs in this thread?

I got to Step 6, to where I flashed the unsecured boot image, and now I'm stuck in a bootloop.

Then, out of desperation I flashed the other file:
