sim card question

does the sim card control both 4g & 3g? my download speeds are decent but when on 4g i often loose data or 4g becomes unresponsive until i reboot or restart the connection. this happens on all the radios. could it be a bad sim or perhaps the 4g in my area is not reliable?

would verizon send me a new sim or will i have to unroot to take it into a store?

The SIM provides network authentication for the MDM9600, the combo LTE/CDMA data modem. If that or the MDM9600 fail, you'll only have voice and 1xRTT.
my sim card failed, I only had 1x until Verizon replace mine with a new one. I had to unroot and put back to stock than I went to the Verizon store.
