Samsung didn't want you to think that this year's IFA would be all about the Note, so they introduced more products like the Gear S and VR, but where are the new tablets? Say hello to the Galaxy Tab Active, Samsung newest tablet that resembles a giant S5 Active/Sport but with a pen -- unfortunately the Tab Active is no Tab S, and the pen is no S-pen.

With the Tab Active Samsung is venturing into the world of waterproof tablets, that few have done so before. The Tab Active also has some drop protection too (1.2m says Samsung), thanks to its rugged shell. The specs may not impress you much when comparing it to Sammy's other offerings but they are decent:

  • 8-inch 1280 x 800 display

  • 1.2 GHz quad-core processor

  • 1.5 GB RAM

  • 16 GB internal memory

  • microSD card slot up to 64 GB

  • 3.1 MP rear camera

  • 1.2 MP front shooter

  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0

  • 4,450 mAh removable battery

  • Android 4.4 KitKat

  • Wifi-only and LTE variants

So as you can tell above this is definitely not just a rugged Tab S or Tab Pro, but still should provide enough power for those that was an outdoor-sy tablet. Or maybe you want something that kids proof, this would work well with that too.

Samsung is also providing a bundle package that includes a protective cover as well as the C Pen stylus with the tablet pair with their Knox security suite, which should keep you protected incase your kids go on a downloading spree.

Of course since this is just an announcement Samsung did not include pricing or availability details, they just wanted to get the product name out there. If priced right (which is up for personal debate regarding Samsung products) is this the tablet for you?

Removeable battery, really? In a tablet??
