It is easy to find them alright mrsmith and others, BUT I think it is a flaw that (a link to) gapps cannot be found on the website of aokp. If you want a nice and working aokp ROM, gapps is essential.
We don't have CTS certification (no custom rom does) and as such aren't supposed to distribute them. Finding gapps is up to you.

This is an age-old problem with custom roms and their deployment.

The simpler you make the directions, the wider your audience, right?

But what of the potential issues that come with installing and running custom roms? How do you know the user is aware of them when you make it too easy for them to install this without having to do a fair amount of reading/learning first?

There are no simple answers to that one. The easier you make it to install the ROM, the more likely you will get people that shouldn't be installing ROMs to start with. The harder you make it to install, the less mass appeal you will get.

Mass appeal is optional if you're building as a hobby - there's your age-old answer

Well, I'm not a dummy (usually), but I don't live this stuff either. I do like AOKP and I have donated each time I've downloaded and used the rom. I know to look for gapps, but how do I know which one is the right one for the build I install? So, yes, it would be nice if at least for milestone builds you mention what version/date of them should be used. I know that the apps have been updated and downloaded on my current phone, so is there a new gapps to use beyond the march build? Or do you just get those and update from the app store?

You made this ROM public. By doing that you DO owe your public. To actually not be rude at least. And if they have a bad experience with your ROM and stab it because you don't want to help or instruct, then too bad for you. Yes, I can move to a different ROM. I don't worship at anyone's feet. Why not make a sticky in the forums with the title of "gapps - where to find them" and just put a "kiss my ass" as the one and only post? Then you wouldn't have to answer the question ever again.

There, now you ruined my day. I was excited to have the new build and was going to install today. But tomorrow I can be happy again and not install it.

I've never seen a ROM get stabbed before. What does that look like?

Sorry to bump this relatively useless thread, but the NAME of this forum is RootzWiki. Maybe...just maybe on that Wiki, they might have listed what GApps go with what Android version? http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps

Coming from XDA, that Wiki is a godsend....
Sure, true. However, since AOKP will always be up-to-date in regards to the Android version it's based off of (or at least eventually, if a particular update requires massive code re-writes), you can safely assume the latest GAPPS is always correct.

Now, we just need someone to make a new gapps. The previous one is due for an upgrade. Luckily, 4.3 should drop soon, hopefully bringing new gapps with it

Why? Why are you (and MarcLandis) pretending everyone who asks fot gapps is somewhat stupid and childish. Stop doing that please. Thank you. We are your users. We make the succes of AOKP. I will stay with my opinion that it is a very big mistake that it is not even mentioned that you have to flash gapps on a website of one of the biggest ROMS around.

After flashing the latest gapps recently (from xda, a respected website) my phone was not working properly. How could I know I always have to flash the latest from goo, and from goo only. By reading this topic on RootzWiki? I am a very advanced user flashing and rooting every piece of hardware I own, but I did flash the wrong gapps. I am not stupid. In my opinion.

And to add to that if using the goo app it always brings up all the outdated packages if you only search for gapps. People probably don't realize you have to be more specific than just putting gapps in the search bar.
