Why would you use xtc clip on the incredible? You can root the incredible with unrevoked.

unrevoked has been the accepted method of rooting froyo on the incredible and other htc devices for a long time. however,it used the "rage against the cage" exploit that does not work in gingerbread. so if youre allready s-off,or can root before your phone gets hit with the OTA,great.

since the OTA is rolling out to stock devices as we speek, making them unrootable with z4root,unrevoked,or anything else,i think the clip is worth exploring.

heres an example:

the incredible is plainly listed in the supported devices. again, when i open the clip software, the incredible is not an option. it also doesnt have a sim card. ive seen the same supported device list other places. im trying to find out if that info is plain wrong,or was it supported, now is not... or do i just pick a different phone and whip up a goldcard that will work for radio s-off,but not sim unlock?

i bought a clip for other purposes, now im trying to figure out if i can use it to help the community,at least until a different exploit is found. the only ohter option at this point prolly is to hope alpharev/unrevoked can use the same hboot trickery theyre using on the inc 2,inc s,sensation, evo 3d,etc.

I'm not sure. Lets say you got a Dinc today & it came with S-ON & 2.3; could you not rollback to 2.2 via RUU or PB31IMG.zip?

nope. an s-on hboot will only let you reflash current firmware or newer,it will not let you go backwards in version numbers and unstall older firmware. at least not without rewriting the misc image first, but that is no longer possible with GB. all doors have been closed.

in order to root GB,we need a new exploit,or need a way to get an s-off bootloader.
The Droid Incredible is NOT supported by the XTC Clip.

But here are two methods that are used by other HTC devices that have recently gotten Gingerbread to downgrade their firmware, that be applicable to the Droid Incredible, link & link.
